Museology is the science of Museum. It helps Museum professionals to understand the needs of Museum and know the procedures of Museum Organization and Management viz Museum Collection, Documentation & Research; Museum Education; Museum Exhibition; Conservation & Preservation; Museum Marketing; Museum Architecture; Museum Publication & Museum Security and Administration.
The term Museum is derived from the Greek word 'Museion' which means temple of the Muses, the Goddess of protecting Arts and Sciences. Universally Museum are a place of learning, experience, preserving the old Culture and Heritage of a particular region and community presenting in its original evidence, its identity and development.
Eligibility
For Admission to Museology, a Graduate or a Post Graduate from Science, History or Art History or Fine Arts and Archaeology can join the courses.
Scopes and Opportunities
Museology is a very wide subject and highly Professional field. After the completion of the course the persons can work in the Museum as a Curator, Conservator, Administrative Officer, Liaison Officer, Educator, Taxidermist and in the Teaching Profession.

Aligarh Muslim University, U.P; Jiwaji University, Gwalior.
Most of these Departments of Universities and Institutions have their own Museums and Laboratoris. In India there are more than 700 Museums offering wide employment, starting from Central Government Museums to the Distric levels and from Trust Museums to religious Museums according to the subject of the museum and Specialization of the Candidates.
