The Ministry of Minority Affairs has found 65 proposals eligible for consideration under its Free Coaching and Allied Scheme for imparting coaching to students belonging to the Minority communities for the year 2011-12. The final selection will be done in the 2nd week of next month by a Committee which is headed by the Secretary of the Ministry. The list of all the eligible and ineligible institutes has been uploaded on the official website of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Last year 22 coaching institutes were included under the Scheme. The budget for the Scheme for 2011-12 has been fixed at Rs. 16 crore and the target is to coach 6,000 students during the year. This Scheme is implemented directly by the Ministry of Minority Affairs with 100% Central assistance to the selected coaching institutes. The Scheme provides for earmarking 30% of the target for girls.

The Ministry had invited proposals from Govt/Pvt. institutes/NGOs for participating in the Scheme. The last date for receiving proposals along with the recommendations of the concerned State Government was 15th July 2011.
The Free Coaching and Allied Scheme for Minorities aims to empower the Minority communities, which are relatively disadvantaged section of society, by assisting them as well as those institutions working for them, towards enhancing their skills and capabilities to make them employable in industries, services and business sectors in addition to the government sector.
