Tiss Guwahati to be Off-Campus Center of Tiss Mumbai

Whereas the Central Government is empowered under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956 to declare, on the advice of the UGC, an institution of higher learning as a deemed-to-be-university.

And whereas, on the advice of the UGC, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai was declared as an ‘Institution Deemed-to-be-University’ for the purposes of the aforesaid Act, vide this Ministry’s notification No. F 11-22/62-U.2 dated the 29th April, 1964.

And further whereas, the Institution “Deemed-to-be-University” has submitted a proposal on 21st December, 2009 seeking permission for establishment of an off-campus centre at Guwahati under the ambit of “Tata Institute of Social Sciences”.

And whereas, the UGC vide its communication bearing No. F 6-3/94 (CPP-I) dated 18.02.2011 has recommended to the Ministry of Human Resource Development to allow TISS, Mumbai to start an off-campus centre at Guwahati from the academic year 2011-2012 subject to annual review for three years and subsequently after five years.

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Central Government, on the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC), do hereby declare that TISS, Guwahati shall be a constituent teaching unit under the ambit of TISS, Institution Deemed-to-be-University, Mumbai as an off-campus centre, for the purposes of the aforesaid Act for conduct of academic course/programmes and the conditions attached thereto, from the academic year 2011-12 subject to annual review for three years and subsequently after five years, subject to usual terms and conditions as prescribed under the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2010.

The declaration as made in Para 5 above is further subject to fulfillment of the conditions mentioned at Sr. No. 4 of the endorsement to this notification.
