t is feasible to convert books into Braille provided there is a capacity for printing books in adequate numbers. National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Dehradun under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment produces talking books on Compact Disc and in other digital format for the benefit of visually impaired persons.
During 2001, information pertaining to disability ‘In Seeing’ was collected which included ‘blind’ as also persons with ‘low vision’. As per Census 2001, the estimated number of children with disability ‘in seeing’ in the age group of 5-19 is 27, 74,145 and out of that 15, 89,954 children are attending educational institutions
