The Union Cabinet in its meeting held on 20th November, 2008 had approved establishment of Ghani Khan Ghoudhary Institute of Engineering and Technology(GKCIET), Malda, West Bengal. As per the decision of Cabinet, the State Government of West Bengal was to provide 150 to 200 acres of land, free of cost. However, the State Government has conveyed their inability to find suitable non-agricultural land for GKCIET, Malda.
The Cabinet in its meeting held on 22nd November 2012 has approved to relax the requirement of 250-300 acres of land before starting construction activities for GKCIET and for starting the construction of GKCIET's permanent campus in the 100 acres of land presently available/donated by the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Malda. The Cabinet also approved to pursue, the issue of obtaining 150 to 200 acres of land, free of cost adjacent or nearby the/ present location from Government of West Bengal as earlier committed by them.
