Handicapped and OBCs Registered in Employment Exchanges



Section 33 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 provides for 3% reservation for persons with disabilities in identified posts in government establishments including public undertakings. A Special Recruitment Drive was launched in 2009 to fill up the backlog of reserved vacancies identified for persons with disabilities, and as per the information received from 70 Ministries / Departments, 1903 backlog vacancies were filled up upto June, 2011. The drive was extended upto 31.03.2012.


The Minister of State for Labour & Employment Shri K. Suresh gave this information in reply to a written question in the Rajya Sabha today the State-wise number of handicapped persons and those belonging to the backward classes whose names are registered with the employment exchange as on date; the number of persons of these categories provided with employment during the last three years; whether the reserve quota meant for those categories of persons is being filled for regularly; the details thereof; if not, the reasons therefor; and the details of the efforts being made to fill by the reserve quota meant for the persons belonging to these categories.
