Central Sector Scholarship Scheme of ‘Top Class Education for SC Students’ is being implemented by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment from 21st June, 2007.
2. Objective
Objective of the scheme is to promote qualitative education amongst SC students, by providing full financial support for pursuing studies beyond 12th class in premier institutions of the country. Maximum number of slots for new scholarships each year is 1250. Scholarships are granted for 188 courses including Engineering, Medicine/Dentistry, Law, Management and other Specialized Streams etc. Identified institutions include all Indian Institute of Managements ((IIMs), Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), (earlier known as RECs), commercial pilot training institutions and reputed medical/law and other institutions of excellence.
3. So far 181, institutions of excellence were specified under the Scheme, Ministry of Social Justice has recently included 24 new institutions as follows:
(i) 10 NITs,
(ii) 3 IIMs,
(iii) 2 School of Planning & Architecture,
(iv) 5 Law universities,
(v) 4 Other Premier Institutions under various Central Ministries.
With this addition total number of institutions notified under the scheme has become 205. A complete list of new institutions, 24 in number, specified under the Scheme is at Annexure I.
4. Eligibility Criteria and components of the Scholarship:
SC students whose total family income is up to ` 2 lakh per annum are eligible for the scholarship.
The SC students, who secure admission in the notified institutions, according to the norms prescribed by the respective institutions, is eligible for the scholarship under the scheme to the extent of the number of scholarships allocated to the institutions concerned.
Component of Scholarship is as follows:
(i) full tuition fee and other non-refundable charges (there will be a ceiling of Rs.2 lakh per annum per student towards fee in the private institutions and Rs.3.72 lakh per annum per student in private commercial pilot training institutions).
(ii) Living expenses @ of Rs.2220 per month per student
(iii) books & stationery @ Rs.3000 per annum per student and
(iv) a latest computer with full accessories limited to Rs. 45000 per student as one time assistance. Living expenses, cost of books and stationary and computer are subject to actual.
The scholarship, once awarded, will continue till the completion of the course, subject to the satisfactory performance.
5. Funds are released by the Ministry directly to the institutions in a single installment on yearly basis, upon receipt of necessary details about admission of SC students.
